Columbia County Rail Safety & Mobility Study

Train, rail tracks, and log truck

Columbia County has grown and developed alongside the existing Portland & Western Railroad rail line, which lies generally parallel to U.S. Highway 30 and the Columbia River throughout much of the 55-mile length of the county. The purpose of the Columbia County Rail Safety & Mobility Study was to evaluate each of the 48 public crossings and develop a list of concepts that can be funded for future design and construction to improve at-grade crossing safety.

The study was commissioned by a public-private partnership that included the Port, Columbia County, City of Scappoose, City of St. Helens, City of Columbia City, City of Clatskanie, Columbia Economic Team, Global Partners, and NEXT Renewable Fuels.
